So Wednesday I snagged my cartilage earring, right, gave it a good yank (hurt like hell). But it's not like that hasn't happened before, so I cursed and mostly forgot about it.
Then Thursday while shopping with Mom, it started hurting again basically out of the blue. I guess I bumped it or something. I started feeling at it with my fingers and commented to Mom, who suggested I take out my earring. At first I didn't, because it wasn't the first time I'd irritated a piercing and I figured it was no big deal, but a few minutes later it was bothering me so much that I took out the earring anyway. My ear was all swollen and my earring was way tight, and when I got the earring out, well, ew. So I pocketed my earring and, with the immediate pain relieved, went about my day. When I got home, I cleaned it up with my piercing cleaner stuff, noting the area around the hole was particularly swollen, but still not really thinking much of it.
So finally this (Friday) morning, I get up, go to the bathroom, look in the mirror, and note how red my ear is. Further investigation revealed a huge, hard knot bulging out from the back of my ear. It hurt, too. What the hell, I thought, has my cartilage deformed or something? oO
Anyway, wanting it to heal but not close up, I cleaned it again, and sterilized my earring, and gently--because it still hurt like a sunuvabitch--pushed my earring into the hole (not forcing it), from both the front and the back.
All of a sudden, my fingers are wet. Whee, buddy, hello blood and pus. Most of it drained pretty fast, though I went thorough a couple of tissues (they weren't soaked or anything, just gross, don't go freaking on me).
But WOW what a difference it made. Doesn't hurt nearly as much with all that pressure relieved, and I was able to put my earring back in. It's no damned wonder it was bothering me! The knot is gone, now, and so is the pain.
